Full Description
I am milking a few camels on our farm in the Kalahari. The milk is shipped fresh or frozen to Stikland (Cape Town) or Germiston, from where it needs to be collected.
The camels are from a wild herd that has been on the farm for the last 60 years. The herd was established when the police in the Kalahari switched from using camels to motorised transport in the 1950’s. They graze on natural vegetation where their diet consists of scrubs, trees and grasses indigenous to the area. Both the cow and calf are released back to the wild herd after about 1 year.
